Fics like Ropin, Ridin', and Revenge

Amateur detectives Stede and Ed accept a suspicious invitation from the Badmintons to stay at their newly acquired ranch in Arizona. But what promises to be a relaxing vacation of horseback riding and hiking turns out to be anything but. The night before they arrive, a strange glowing horse appeared at the ranch, followed immediately by one of their hosts being bitten by a rattlesnake and taken to the hospital. And more suspicious events keep happening, heralded by the appearance of the horse. Could it be possible that this is infamous outlaw Dirk Valentine's horse, come back as some kind of harbinger of bad luck? Or is the horse merely a distraction, meant to clear people from the ranch so that someone can search for the treasure that Dirk Valentine is rumored to have hidden somewhere for his girlfriend, Frances Humber, whose father owned the ranch in the 1880s, and just so happened to be the sheriff? An AU based on the game Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch.
