Fics like Marry Me at the Foot of the Gallows Tree

Foot of the Gallows Marriage: A folk tradition, primarily attested in medieval France and Germany, in which one condemned to die could be saved and granted a full pardon if a citizen of moral character stepped forward before the execution and consented to wed the condemned. ✘ ❦ ✘ Christine Cunningham is found dead on the outskirts of the small village of Hawkins. The only suspect: Eddie Munson, blamed by circumstance and without solid proof of his innocence. His execution is all but assured until a voice rises up from the assembled crowd shouting, “I will marry him.”
