“I need… h-help…” Matt rasps. His voice is hoarse and squeaky. “Mells, I…” What did he do? Did he kill someone? He sure looks fucked up, and like he’s about to fall over. Mello’s heart thuds. “What’s wrong?” Mello asks sharply, squinting at his friend. His sclera are bloodshot and his pupils are constricted. There’s a bit of blood on his lower lip. He’s fidgeting nervously with his cuticles, tearing at them. He can’t sit still, but that’s not abnormal, though it still seems disturbingly unusual. “I… I don’t…” Matt’s staring at the wall behind Mello instead of making eye contact. Everything about him just looks wrong. “I feel… I…” He sputters. Mello realizes there’s wet streaks on his face as a glint of moonlight flickers through the window. “I thought you were dead,” Matt blurts out with a sob. “Huh?” Mello raises an eyebrow. Did he do some dumb shit and forget about it? He wasn’t sick earlier, and he didn’t even play rough on the field earlier. There’s not much that could’ve put him in mortal peril. “Why would I be dead?” He can’t help but feel a bit puzzled. --- Matt panics in the middle of the night. He wakes Mello for help.
