He buries his nose into Chris’s unruly hair again and breathes deeply and feels a flare in his chest. Buck scented him before letting him go. He can smell Buck on his son. Even in his desperation to get Chris to safety, he had thought to offer his son comfort, even offering his own shirt. Eddie's alpha howls. Mate, mate, mate. Buck isn't his, he reminds himself again, but it doesn't seem to matter. All he wants is to have Buck in his arms.
