Fics like with teeth

“Why do you do it?” Nori asks the fifteenth night in a row when the burns on Elina’s shoulders have grown so angry and blistered and deep that when the merfairies came to collect her they found her passed out from the pain. Elina remains silent for a long time as she attempts to find the words. “I can feel them now,” she says at last, pressing Nori’s fingers to her gills. “And I can’t unfeel it. The water. Sliding in and out.” Like drowning. She presses harder. “I miss when I breathed air.” (or, what if Mermaidia were a lesbian horror film?)
