Fics like not all stone behaves

The consumption of a mana stone is not profane. Life and magic are cyclical; the body is useless when it is no longer a person, who thinks and feels and is, but when it is instead a thing. In the North, where food is scarce but magic abundant, eating a mana stone is the preservation of power. Eating the mana stone of a wizard you had in your life for so long that his absence is incomprehensible, and irrefutably eternal, bears more rightness than the mana stone of a wizard harvested for his power alone. Oz brings the mana stone to his lips. He had had two thousand years of Figaro. Not even he knows how many years, centuries, millennia remain without him. In Oz’s sudden, overwhelming nausea, in yanking the mana stone away from himself, it scratches his bottom lip. Blood that countless wizards would kill for wells up drop by precious drop.
