Fics like somewhere in the dark (I'll find you)

The kid is there again. Or no, 'kid' isn't the right word — he looks to be in his mid-twenties, if Kabir is to hazard a guess. But that is young, frighteningly so, considering the bitter and jaded look in his eyes. It's hollow, utterly devoid of hope in a way that makes what would otherwise be an attractive face appear cold and hard. To most people it would probably sound silly to read so much into someone's eyes, but the thing is, Kabir recognizes that look. He knows it well, since he'd seen it staring back at him from the mirror often enough. He'd felt just as lost as that kid seems to be for a long time after Abdul Rahmani had ended his military career.
