Fics like The Neglected Children of Outpost 3...

In another timeline, there was a good chance they would have been enemies. They were on two opposite ends of their class's hierarchy, and had different standings in the bunker in general. Their first interactions had certainly not been very pleasant when they were kids. By all accounts, they should have grown up to be enemies, or at the very least not liking one another. And yet... it was remarkable how one single event could change so much. Make them realize how alone they both were. And thanks to that, they were now inseparable. And along the way, they made two more friends who they could trust... and who also needed help of their own. So now, they were a squad of four - four teenage drones against the rest of the bunker. And if any of their classmates wanted to cause one of them problems... they would learn how their unlikely group backed one another up. (And also, those people could bite them!)
