Fics like Leap of Faith

England - May, 1944 “Your husband doesn't write you.” Nesta didn't look up from where she was primly folding one of his men's uniforms. “Well, Captain, he is fighting a war.” Cassian frowned, knowing full well the men in his Company wrote every chance they could, anxious to hear from their wives, to be reminded what it was all for. Her words were an excuse. A deflection from a lovelessness that cracked his heart in two. “I don't suppose you would let me?” He asked. "Let you what?" “Write you, sweetheart.” -- While training for the Allies' invasion Europe, Captain Cassian Garcia of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment meets the mysterious Nesta Mandray and finds a light in the darkness. Beautiful, if not burdened by some deep sadness, he finds he cannot stay away, even with the ring around her finger. When Nesta Mandray meets the bold, yet inexplicably handsome American Officer lodging next door, her dream of escape from a loveless marriage becomes increasingly hard to ignore. But a life scarred makes for a woman cautious, and it will take more than brief conversations over clean linens to convince her to take a leap of faith. WWII!AU
