Fics like worlds apart

The door looms in the distance. His throat is tight, his stomach shivery. Excitement wages war with anxiety within him. Time slows, and as he approaches the door all he can hear is his heartbeat. He swallows. Gathers his courage. Opens the door, and - and - he’s here. Lit up in gold. The world condenses into the warmth of his gaze, the delicate shifting of his hands, the rhythm of his breathing. Kaito is a boy lost beneath cherry blossom, touched by moonlight. Some deep, unknown part of him sings in relief, in recognition, in hope. Like coming home. (Like the war is only now slipping away from his bones). - Shinichi and Kaito live in separate worlds. The two of them are drawn together by a door that leads them through different dimensions, driven by an urge to search for something they can't name. Sometimes, it feels like their wandering will never end.
