Fics like Patched.

You were brilliant. A genius, a prodigy - a doctor at the age of twenty-two. Your soul is warm and kind, and you strive to help others despite your lingering demons. But, your success doesn't always have a good side to it. When you accept a sick child and their monster parents at the hospital you worked at, you are met with more acceptance, love, kindness, and gratitude than any other human you had ever met. You eventually learn that the legend of Mt. Ebbot runs much deeper than what it had seemed on the surface.
