Fics like How the Questing Beast Chased, and Caught, Her Own Tail

For the Incubators, a diagnosis of "mental illness" is as simple as having a personal interest outside producing negentropy – for example, in wordplay. Kyubey, the assigned Incubator for Mitakihara City's magical girls in their fight against wraiths, is diagnosed with an unnecessary emotion after making an unprompted joke, and scheduled for execution and replacement. It accepts gracefully, knowing its death serves the purpose of fighting entropy... right up until it can't. In for a penny, in for breaking and rewriting your identity, as they say.
