Fics like torn between what is and what could be

"You know, boys, as I was watching the poor kid run, I noticed somethin’. Ol’ Ponybaby here, he ain’t gotten a haircut in a minute, yeah? Reckon he’s been lookin’ like a bit of a sissy lately. Suppose he uses his head for more than just storin’ books; grows his hair like dang Rapunzel, too.” Realization dawns on Ponyboy a beat later. His ears are ringing, and he’s pretty sure he’s bordering on passing out. Would that hurt less? Would that make this any easier? or, seventeen-and-a-half year old ponyboy gets jumped by some socs who cut his hair & inadvertently, with the help of his brothers, finally comes to a heavy realization about his late best friend that's been staring him in the face for a long, long time
