You meet God in a duketater field at Christmas. It’s the middle of summer, but it’s also been Christmas for three days running now. Before that, it was Easter for almost a week. These things just happen sometimes. Not great for the crops though. You don’t know it’s God, for a minute. You think it’s one of the clones. There are a lot of them around, squabbling about who’s the favorite, blithering awkwardly about clone rights, or worst of all, clumsily playing at happy family. They’re easily recognizable, with their unearthly pale skin, the seraphine wings that sprout from the side of their heads, and the faint halo of light that surrounds them. They glow with a solely reflected light. Like the moon against the sun. Like a mirror against a real person. Made in the image of a god. You think that’s what God looks like, anyway. You must recognize them because they look like their clones. How else would you know?
