In an AU in which Voyager did not reach home after 7 years, almost eight year-old Alex Janeway discovers Chakotay is not his real father. When he confronts his mother about it, the painful memories surrounding his conception come back to the forefront of Kathryn's mind. Past and present mix in her as she struggles with decisions made a long time ago. Or, a Workforce AU in which Janeway gets pregnant from Jaffen but does not tell her child about his real father. Angst ensues.
