Fics like Pride and Joy

In 1990, Jake Blues gets out of prison due to overpopulation. Feeling a sense of guilt and irritation due to leaving Elwood behind, he starts out his freedom by stalking bars and feeling isolated. No wonder why Elwood got a second job while he was in prison. However, one night he meets someone new… In 2006, Kat finds out her dad is officially dead, has been for years. There goes her ticket to freedom! Having been stuck in the foster care system since she was born, all she wants is out. Frustrated, all she wants to do is give up. However, what her foster sister says is true: he did have a brother…. — “But Elwood, we need to find her. It feels like…” “Divine intervention?” “That’s right! You know I always go to the gas station for snacks after school, right? Well, that gas station was closed for repairs. I decided to wander around a bit before going home, got struck with nostalgia. Remember when we brought in that huge crowd at Memorial Park?” “We got a ticket for playing so loud. Half the neighborhood was awake.” “Exactly! And she happened to be there! Kat Carter!” “Kat Carter.” And it all made sense, then. It was a message from God.
