Fics like (i am temporary; i leave) nothing but a dull ache

The image is burned into your mind’s eye: Siffrin, the very last time you ever saw him, knowing full well as you watched his collapse into singularity that something was wrong wrong wrong — but not knowing how to say it, not after the way he’d ripped himself from your careless grasp just moments before. He — he was the key. He was the only one who could ever fit the gap he’d left in his wake, still moulded to know all and only his edges. He was one-half of an embrace now left always lingering. He would not, could not, ever come home. (After Siffrin finds another way to break free of the loops, the party leaves Dormont with one less traveller in tow. Life continues. Isabeau tries to make sense of it all.)
