Fics like Talk Me Down

“Steve, man,” Sam said softly, sitting across from him, “what happened?” Steve doesn’t say anything. The fight had broken him. The things Bucky had said – “I’m not the same, Steve, I’m never going to be!” – “I’m not a good person, you don’t need me” – “I think it’s best if I go” – “I love you Steve, but you can’t fix me” – “I can’t live a lie anymore, Stevie. I’m sorry.” And then, he was gone. And Steve couldn’t make him stay. He had tried, oh he had tried. He tried until he’d talked himself hoarse, he’d cried and begged, but Bucky was gone. “…he’s gone, Sam,” Steve finally croaked a while later. And Sam knew then. He knew then, that this was the last time he’d hear the Captain’s voice, for a long, long time.
