Fics like paradise lost

It seemed everyone else was more eager than she to see her pregnant. Ofcolin’s status in the new family was precarious, and in the beginning she rashly wished to be with child quickly just to be rid of the expectation. However, as the months went on without any progress - nor any threats of punishment - she was now unsure of what she wanted. Ofcolin quite liked passing the days in quiet repose. Her next family might not be so lenient. She rather wanted to prolong her current assignment as long as possible. .::. Commander Colin is a scion of the Bridgertons, a political dynasty whose lineage can be traced back to the founders of the Republic of Gilead. Following tradition, a handmaid is bestowed upon him to help fulfill his duty. Seemingly demure and docile, Penelope is amiable enough, but scarcely occupies space in his mind. That is until one night, when he sees a spark in her eyes, a look that intrigues him, ensnares him. What they set into motion upends Colin's daily existence as he comes to realize that rather than a Venusian Eve, his handmaid is forbidden fruit incarnate. And forbidden fruit is always the sweetest. or, The Handmaid's Tale AU
