Fics like Portraits of a Girl on Fire

If Ursa had it her way, their teenage years would’ve been spared. If Ozai had only loved his wife. If only Azulon had treated Ozai better. If Sozin had shown Azulon compassion- so it came down to that. Generations of tyrants pumped blood through Zuko’s heart. They gnawed on his bones in his sleep. As Mai and Zuko welcome their little girl into the world, they reflect on their upbringings, their relationship, and responsibilities— not only as parents, but as rulers raising a future Firelord. The one thing they promise themselves: to do better than their own parents, for their daughter’s sake. ... Snapshots of Izumi’s childhood, from birth to her teenage years. Written as part of Maiko Week 2024, Day 4: Parents
