Fics like A Well Timed Scandal

“So you want me to marry Cooper Howard?” He shakes his head, laughing under his breath. “Marry? No, no, lets play that by ear,” he assures you. “What we want — need — you two to do is make it look like you’ve been having an affair.” You must look like you’ve seen a ghost. This is insane. “Explains his divorce, gets people talking about you two as a pair, gets eyes on this movie you’re filming together — now, don’t go outright saying it, of course. We just wanna’ make people read between the lines, get them curious enough to get them into the theater to see the chemistry on the screen...” --- When Cooper Howard finds himself scandalised by not just divorce, but allegations of anti-American sentiment, it falls to the studio system to try and squeeze what they can from him before he finds himself blacklisted. Fortunately, the only thing the press loves more than exposing a commie is a celebrity scandal -- and the studio has just the woman in mind to play the role of the other woman. Being seen with Cooper Howard while filming your breakthrough movie to get people talking? Easy. Doing the right thing when your career and dreams are on the line? ...Jury's out on that one, champ.
