Fics like A Place in History

Emma Andersen thought she would earn her place in history by following in her father's footsteps as a premiere researcher of the Viking Age. After his untimely death, she takes over his latest archeological dig in Cookham, his final passion project. Her desire to honor her father's legacy leads her to living on site 24/7 and after camping out on an old pagan burial mound, she wakes up and finds herself in Cookham...ninth century Coccham, that is. Thankfully, Emma is more prepared than the average person for a jaunt in medieval time travel, and she finds that the Lord of Coccham, Uhtred, is surprisingly accepting of a strange woman wandering into the village, as are his band of loyal warriors. The longer she finds herself stuck in the past, the more embroiled she becomes in the world she once studied. As she loses hope of ever returning to her time, she seeks out her place in the past—a place with real friendships and love—and perhaps even a place in history itself.
