Fics like He did not love me living; but once dead He pitied me; and very sweet it is To know he still is warm though I am cold.

Padmé Amidala wakes up in her old apartment and a still standing Republic with a younger husband and an absence of her children. The force seems to have tangled its hands with time, and she, one of its victims, given a duty that she is unsure of. Or “We don’t have children Padmé,” Anakin says and he looks stricken. “Not yet, I would.. I-” she can feel the shudder of his breath, she pushes at him again, gently she needs space from him, it’s all too much. “I would love to have children with you.” and his voice is tortured with longing. Something doesn’t make sense. Her hands grope at her stomach again, she digs the adipose flesh of her thumb into her stomach, kneads, like she’s made of bread not flesh and feels nothing give. There's no sign– not even the slightest stretch of scars, or the quiet upward slopes. She looks at Anakin again, his hair is shorter, he looks younger, he’s confused.
