Fics like there is a flower within my heart

“You have been less willing to eat your breakfast as of late.” Blunt and to the point, HAL was. Dave huffed a small, breathless laugh. “Are you feeling okay?” “Yes, Hal, really. I’m- look at me, I’m fine.” He set down his art supplies and held open his hands, in a kind of come-search-me gesture. That kind of buzzing noise again. Dave continued to associate it with the camera, and imagined HAL scanning him carefully. “I’m just not hungry.” “Just a moment.” HAL is quiet. “It is typical for your species to eat three and a half meals a day. It is 0900 ship time, which still coincides with a typical breakfast, but is a little late for it. You should try to eat now, to ensure continued good health and accordance with your circadian rhythm.” ~ Dave doesn't want breakfast. HAL doesn't get it. They talk about the American breakfast being an ad campaign, flowers, and about how Dave's irrational desire to go hungry this morning does NOT reflect on his relationship with HAL.
