Fics like Frigid

Dean grits his teeth and tries to lock down the emotion, ground himself in the present, as the memories come in waves, washing away the room around him. Sam with his arms around him, steady on his feet even though Dean isn’t Dean holding up Sam’s weight; most of it, then all of it at once. Sam currently in his arms, making a noise of pain and saying his name in annoyance. Sam, silent except for his last agonizing breaths. Sam, hugging him back. Sam, limp in his arms. Sam, warm and solid, Sam, blue lips and icy skin, Sam - Dean tries to stay in the moment – fights like hell to stay in the here and now – as the lines blur and the flickers of Cold Oak encroach more insistently around him. The room fades away and he’s on his knees on the muddy ground, cold leeching through his jeans and through his veins. Sam’s blood is sticky on his fingers as he feels the wound and tries to convince Sam, already fading, that everything will be okay, because it has to be.
