Fics like your grace is wasted on your face

“Can’t,” Zuko grunted out, just as Katara pushed the cold compress closer. “Father says that if – if it’s my fault, I have to fix it myself. Asking for handouts after a tantrum is dishonorable.” He’d said as much before, when the worst thing he’d shown up with was enough cuts on his knees to border the wrong edge of questionable. Sokka had never thought twice about the explanation. He knew that Toph’s parents had cut her off from time to time. Rich kid problems at their finest. This time, though, Sokka took a good, hard look at the burns on Zuko’s arm. And he did something he’d never done before: he asked follow-up questions. “How’d you get that burn, Zuko?” Or, Zuko's made a habit of texting Sokka when he needs to be patched up. But when said patching up only ever happens in the middle of the night when his dads aren't home, there's only so much Sokka is willing to not question for the sake of someone he doesn't even know that well.
