Fics like Rising from the Ashes.

The abrupt arrival of Voyager back to the alpha quadrant requires some adjustments, as relationships are explored, and discarded. Old friends and enemies appear just when he wants to move forward. Chakotay manages to get a taste the future he's been longing for all these years, only to have it disappear on him, when Voyagers Captain goes missing. But not all is as it seems. People from his past, weave into his present. He is determined to make the future he craves - his own.
