Union brass expected that Teleya's capture would lead to heightened aggression from the Krill. Instead, their entire fleet withdrew, leaving the rest of the galaxy to pick up the pieces. This would not have been a problem for the crew of the Orville, at least until they were voluntold their new assignment: escort the Krill ambassador to Za'ar for negotiations. All they had to do is get Ambassador Ayhrov from Point A to Point B, teach him what little they knew about the elusive Za'ari people, and try to keep him in one piece. Everything should have gone smoothly. Instead of spending her time digging in the dirt, as most xenobotanists preferred to spend their time, Ensign Nia Bridges suddenly found herself thrust into teaching, rising political tensions, the ever-growing threat of war, ecological disaster, and then getting kidnapped. And that was just the easy part. How on Earth was she supposed to do her regular job, mandatory "volunteer" duty shifts, babysitting, translating, and teaching Ambassador Ayhrov all while being pretend-married to him and trying to avoid being stabbed?
