Fics like Upon Reflection

“I was thirty-nine years old when he enslaved me.” Gale frowns through the wine-fog in his mind as he searches his memory for details of elven lifespans. He knows they live for centuries. “What age do elves reach adulthood?” he asks – mostly to himself, but Astarion answers. “Somewhere around a hundred.” Gale freezes. A child. He might have had an adult’s body, but he was most definitely still a child. Not even halfway to adulthood. The equivalent of a human being abducted at … nine? Ten? He feels something cold twisting in his chest as he thinks of himself at age ten. At a shrine, being pulled into the shining expanse of the Outer Planes, his hand in Mystra’s. --- In which Gale finds out that it's hard to tell you're in an abusive relationship until you're out of it.
