In a bid to gather intelligence, Harry Potter makes an unthinkable suggestion: to employ Lucius Malfoy as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Lucius studied him, his expression unreadable. "I fail to see what you hope to gain by bringing me to Hogwarts." Harry was silent for a moment before replying. "I've heard it's wise to keep your enemies close." A faint arch of Lucius’s brow was the only sign that the remark had landed. "So,” he said evenly, “you consider me your enemy." Harry let out a quiet sigh and rolled his eyes. “Let’s stop pretending. We both know the truth.” Lucius held his gaze for several long seconds. "I confess, Potter, I rather expected some noble speech about forgiveness. Perhaps even redemption." Harry gave a soft snort. "I'm not that saintly." For the first time, genuine amusement crossed Lucius's face.
