Sam wasn’t sure what she was feeling, only that she was feeling a lot of it. Did he mean that he had done this because of her? “Yeah, I think it is,” she answered him, looking back to Charlie. “Thanks,” he whispered. Was this what it had been like before they had become strictly co-workers? She didn’t think so. She remembered a lot of flirting and teasing—a lot of fun. She didn’t remember anything so heavy. Maybe this was better, after all. She missed the flirting, but maybe this was what he actually needed. Maybe he needed the things that were hard for him instead of the things that were second nature. Maybe she was selfish to want both, but hey, a girl could dream.
