Fics like Staring Blankly

“The loneliest moment in someone's life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly” - F. Scott Fitzgerald. “You don’t what? Cry?” Clint asked. This felt like a test. Perhaps they were trying to see how mentally unstable their Captain was. Luckily, he could, in full honesty, reassure them that he was not weak. He had a strong lock on his emotions and hadn’t even cried once since he unfroze. He could operate at full capacity in this century despite not knowing what a ‘Rom-Com’ is. “Not even once.” Steve missed the furrowed brows, and concerned looks shot around the room. He tried his best to isolate himself in the Avengers Tower. If anyone could expose his vulnerability, it was this team. S.H.I.E.L.D. had been less of a threat because Fury was more than willing to believe whatever Steve told him as long as he got results. This team of super spies, geniuses, and gods? They had no reason to sit back and allow an incompetent and weak man to lead them. It was necessary to avoid allowing them to see the cracks in his armor, or they may bench him. If Steve got benched, there was nothing left for him in this century.
