“That’s cheating, Monsieur,” the wolf shifter complained, swaying on his feet as he fought the effects of the sedative. “Only if one ascribes to the conditions of whatever game it is you seem to be playing. Make no mistake, this is my house, and when you’re in it, you play by my rules.” The clipped tone left no room for argument. ... Wriothesley, a wolf-shifter hybrid at the end of his rope, finds himself pressured into accepting a bargain he wouldn't have been caught dead agreeing to, with the powerful Oratrice family he knows next to nothing about except, of course, that the current family head is devastatingly handsome. Tasked with playing the role of a double agent between the Berets and the Oratrice, while looking into a slew of problematic occurrences around the city, he finds himself slipping further into the web of lies he’s woven for years to keep himself alive and keep those with a grip on his and Winnie's life off his back. Will he finally be able to rid himself of the past and trust in those that have his best interest at heart? Or will he bite the wrong hand and reveal truths better left unsaid and secrets kept hidden for his own good?
