Fics like i miss the way you say my name (the way you bend, the way you break)

The Doctor’s temple is feverish against his own. Theta’s cheeks are wet with tears against his neck. The Master trembles against both of them. He can’t look at Theta like this. He’s seeing double; his best friend and his worst enemy. It’s a childish and fumbling labelling of everything between them, but it’s the most accurate summation of their lives he’s ever been able to come up with. He’s weighted towards violence. The urge to push Theta back, away, it crackles in his fingertips. The Doctor is dying. He’s not supposed to be here, watching little Theta sob through it. The Doctor's regeneration has gone badly, to put it mildly. He's crashed on an unknown ship, at the mercy of his panicking body and his greatest enemy. His greatest friend. His greatest...something, but he's not conscious enough to worry about semantics. The Master mostly just wishes none of this happened in the first place.
