Fics like how easily we turn into those we hate

Tim goes to Titans Tower that day on Bruce's orders, to get away from Gotham and the Red Hood. Jason goes to Titans Tower that day of his own volition, to get to Robin. Neither of them expect their trip to San Francisco to end the way it does. *** “This is because he won’t kill the Joker?” Tim’s voice is a hoarse whisper, so soft he’s not even sure Jason heard him. Tim lifts his head, a steely determination in his eyes, and glares straight down the barrel of the gun. Suddenly, he’s struck by the petty, vindictive urge to just be mean, and if he’s going to die anyway, he may as well give in. “You’re no better than he is.” He spits out, jaw clenched. For the umpteenth time that night, there’s a fresh bloom of pain on Tim’s body, this time across his cheekbone as Jason’s gun comes down hard against it. “Don’t you dare compare me to Batman.” There’s fury in Jason’s voice, and satisfaction curls in Tim’s gut. “I’m not.”
