Fics like Visceral Fear; Deliberate Devotion

"She watches the sun rise— and rise and rise. She’s whispering the incantation over and over like a madwoman, watching the sun rise over the trees and never stop, feeling her dread rise with it, when she hears a twig snap behind her. “We’ve got to stop meeting like this, dearest,” He chuckles in his native tongue, and she whips around to face him, her hands— Tatias hands— gripped tightly to her nightgown as her tears fall. As soon as he takes notice of her panicked expression, she’s wrapped in the comfort of his arms; she shakes her head and whispers, “I shouldn’t be here— it should’ve worked, I shouldn’t be here—“ the same way she whispered the incantation that was meant to save her life; desperately, hopelessly, praying Bonnie can hear her whispered words one thousand years away." - Elena warns Elijah of Esther's intentions, not knowing the witch had a contingency plan in place, linking Elena to the Originals and cursing her with a terminal illness. The only cure is 1,000 years in the past, and Elena returns with much more than an unlinking spell.
