Ted Lasso is not a perfect man. Far from it, in fact. He’s a man of many regrets, something that’s not likely to change anytime soon. Seeing Jamie Tartt staring up at him with such a defeated look on his face, the boot that was chucked at his head and only narrowly missed flopped idly on its side next to him, makes something clench up in Ted’s chest. For just a moment, he’s sixteen again, just a few seconds too late and fucking devastated. And then someone, Jamie’s dad, if he even deserves to be called that, is in his face again and Ted can’t see him anymore. In that split second, where Jamie’s slumped shouldered frame and hollow eyes disappear, Ted is forty-five once more, and he refuses to have this regret added to the tally. Ted pushes the door open.
