What if Katniss was the one left behind instead of Peeta? An AU where Plutarch and Coin prioritize extracting Peeta over Katniss, where Peeta struggles to find Katniss before it's too late, and where Peeta must decide if he will destroy Panem before rebuilding it. ___________________________ “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’m sorry Prim, but I promise, I’m going to get her back, no matter what, I’ll get her back. I promise you.” But why should she trust him? He’d promised to be back before midnight and he hadn’t kept his word. He’d promised to give back the pearl and he’d failed at that too. He watched in silence as Prim crossed the room to him, tears slipping down her cheeks, and she stopped right before him. He tensed up, waiting for the blow he deserved, but Prim put her arms around him and began to sob.
