Fics like you only learn what you’re worth when you’re gone

The office smells like dust. The pen in Mike’s hand is half out of ink, and his signature looks spotty. Abby, clutching her stuffie close to her chest in the uncomfortable plastic chair beside him, does not seem any happier with these proceedings than Mike does. In fact, she doesn’t seem to be feeling anything at all. Mike becomes Abby’s official legal guardian on a cold, bitter autumn night. Ever since then, he’s been haunted. —•—•—•— (Abby isn’t the only Schmidt who can see ghosts, but Mike’s is a lot more personal.)
