Fics like Something Here from Somewhere Else

Sapience is a precious gift. Like any precious thing, it is rare. Sapient species are scattered distantly across an infinite chasm, left to bridge the gap between their neighbors with eons of evolution and technology. There are many, like those who man the 01 Osteclara, who dedicate their lives to the search, and yet generation after generation their searches bear no fruit. Sapient life has not been found in a long, long time, and as time stretches on, hope for finding new Life dwindles. Captain Diia'ti of the 01 Osteclara crash lands on an untouched planet, stranded and separated from his crew. Stuck on a vengeful, uninhabited planet, there is little else he can do but try to find shelter. He finds instead what he had dedicated his life to searching for. Kai Yamagata moved into the forest to get away from people, not to be stalked by aliens. You can imagine his frustration.
