Fics like Be Brave for This

Jimmy arrived at the crater just moments after Lois did. He stopped, just before he could see, listening to the silence as he hoped desperately for some sign of life, some proof that he didn’t have to brace himself for the worst. But he couldn’t wait forever, he had to be brave for this. He ran the last few steps to the edge. And then he couldn’t move, his ears rung, blood frozen. He was shaking so much he could barely stand, and the ground crumbled beneath his feet until he shuffled back. Lois had pulled Clark’s head against her stomach, bracing him with her hands. He was lying limp, his skin grey and dull, with those terrible green lines laced over it. There was blood running from a corner of his mouth, and terrible bruises around his eyes. He looked dead, or almost dead.
