Fics like "Can't you see that you're lost without me?"

Scar had a few reasons to believe he must’ve already been dead. He was a navigator, and the ship he'd been sailing on went down in deep waters, and he was sure he'd drowned. That is until he'd come too on a piece of wreckage as a makeshift raft. Discovered, as days floating out in the empty water piled up, that he had an unlikely companion. A creature? Or a ghost? Neither. Even if he felt it was the only option, that he died in the shipwreck due to what he saw emerging from the cobalt blue water, shifting violet scales that caught the sunlight. Large dark eyes staring up at him. A siren in the guise of his love lost at sea. Also, apparently, loved by the ocean. Enough to keep him. Enough to take him away. Scar loved him more, but he wasn't stronger than the ocean. (Whumptober 2023: 10 - Stranded)
