Fics like a monster's voice

Viridian eyes stared at him as he peered through the dark hallway. He tried not to think about it. “Er, hello?” It blinked. Once, twice, before he could see the bare outline of a pale jaw open wide, and a voice of a grainy yet echoey quality, as if from an old horror film, speak. “Oh. Hello there…” The voice was masculine, yet sounded in pain, as if strained in a way yet pretending to be fine, however almost distant in a way as if they weren’t really seeing. Jon hoped it wasn’t too obvious that he was panicking a bit. “Are you okay?” He flinched when the voice suddenly turned distinctly feminine. “Do I look okay?! Oh my god… I d–” The voice trembled in distress, before it abruptly stopped, as if one were to press the pause button of a recording. Slowly, it dawned on him. “Are you.. Unable to talk? Only able to communicate by what other people have said?” “Yes! I said yes Britney! Now please help me–” Jon winced, unable to help but think of various different scenarios that would lead to so many voices feeling distressed. --- A monster in the archives' corridors, awfully adjacent to Death.
