Three, even, if you include Watanuki. Sometimes he does. He isn’t sure, yet, whether he should. But Watanuki is a piece of his Syaoran, and that must count for something. They visit him, sometimes. Watanuki. The sad boy in the sad shop, doomed to the kind of loneliness that makes Fai’s skin crawl. Who was taking care of you? He thinks, imagining Sakura in the boy’s place. Who let this happen? Across from him, Kurogane’s jaw is tight, his lips pursed. He’s thinking the same thing, Fai knows. Kurogane would have sooner given up his other arm than allowed this to pass. Smoke fills the shop parlor. Watanuki doesn’t even bat at it hazily, just stares, head draped back, eyes empty. “There’s no such thing as coincidence,” he murmurs, offering them pastries from a small tray. “If you’re here, it’s because you have no choice.”
