Fics like the finish and the start (it’s the arrow in your heart)

“Are you unhappy to be back home?” “No!” he yells, eyes widening as he whips his head to look at Techno again. He realizes himself and quickly backtracks, “I mean– I love being home. Been a while, and all that, you know.” Techno opens his mouth, only to shut it a moment later. Tommy’s breath shakes in his lungs as the snake constricts around them. He clenches his shaky hands into fists and tries to focus on the colorful graphics that display across the screen. Techno only lets him have a moment before saying, “Did you like college?” “Yeah,” he lies, wincing internally at the way his voice wavers. He wants to reach a hand inside his chest and pull the reptile from around his organs. But, they’re too busy trying to hold his seams together, the thread of his composure pulling taught. “Do you want to go back?” Or, Tommy returns from his first year of college and doesn’t want to go back. He fears the disappointment the news will bring. Title from arrow by half•alive.
