Fics like With a Sigh of Relief

“Xi Gu, my Xi Gu, won’t you wake up soon?” Hao Ting’s voice caught in his throat, voice drifting in the air as he was struck with the inevitable truth that he would not be receiving an answer. Xi Gu’s eyes were lightly closed, chest steadily moving up and down as his body continued to do its work. Even damaged, Xi Gu looked unexplainably calm and collected as he always did. Had it not been for the bandages on his head, the cast on his arm, and the knowledge that Xi Gu’s legs were lying helplessly beneath the thin hospital blanket, Hao Ting would have simply believed the boy was merely sleeping – just like he had always done in the med bay back at school. Hao Ting sighed heavily, hand going to caress his cheek once more. This was all he could do. Caress his cheek, hold his hand, speak to him as if he were actually there. As if he could actually hear. Or, in an alternate universe where Xi Gu was not killed by the accident, Hao Ting waits patiently for his love to wake back up.
