Fics like The Canary

Jimmy has a hard time remembering things. He knows he wasn’t always this small. He knows he wasn’t always in a cage. He knows he used to have a family. Jimmy lets out a small chirp. He used to be louder, nosier, but he can’t muster the energy anymore. It’s too cold and dark down here, and there's been this strange smell that hurts Jimmy’s head and makes it hard for him to see straight. Jimmy’s headache becomes more pronounced. He lets out another soft chirp, sagging against the metal bars of his cage. He tries to stay upright, but he loses his grip on his perch and falls down to the bottom of his cage. He tries to turn his head, to let out some sort of warning for his Miner, but something feels too heavy and constricting on his lungs and he can’t make a sound. When he focuses back up at the ceiling, he feels like he’s flying - soaring once more, without the restriction of his cage. He’s flying, and everything goes dark. In which Jimmy is a canary hybrid trapped in his canary form
