Fics like and love, imagine it (think of doing it again)

"Jennie," Charles says. "And Todd—forgive me, I realize we haven't formally met." He'd have dug the name out of his memory in time; Alan's focus on the question of baby names had been intense, for several months, and he'd often asked Charles to analyze the possibilities, their origins and meanings, to help narrow down the options. But with the goggles offering it to him, neat green-white print, it's impossible to pretend to need to have it told to him. "Dr. McNider," Todd says quietly, and swallows. "Mr. Dugan said you might know what to do. We—it's about the Shade." (Or: Jennie, Todd, and the Shade got in trouble, and now the Shade is lost, injured, in the Shadowlands. Rescuing him turns out to be a little more complicated than Dr. McNider expected, on more than one level—but there isn't a lot McNider wouldn't do to help a friend who saved his life, a friend he's maybe a teeny bit in love with, including letting that friend hitch a ride for a while.)
