Kaveh was doing his best not to catastrophize. He just needed to trust Lesser Lord Kusanali, and he would be back to his world within the week. This universe was an oddity to him, no matter how much it was like his own. And it unsettled him to have Alhaitham act so differently towards him from what he was used to. He seemed more unsure than Kaveh about what he should be doing. But Kaveh didn’t comment on it, and neither did Alhaitham. Even though he could tell that there were times when Alhaitham had to stop himself from touching him. Kaveh wondered how affectionate they were in this universe. He hadn’t ever thought that Alhaitham would be that affectionate, but the aborted movements spoke louder than words. It was as he was waiting while Alhaitham made lunch that he noticed the band on his finger. He touched it, turning it on his finger and examining it. The longer it was under his touch, the more real it felt. Even though this entire experience felt like anything but. “We’re married?” The words came out before he could stop them. Kaveh wakes up in a universe where he and Alhaitham are married.
