It is not uncommon for John to go to bed while Sherlock is out and about, running rampant. He’s used to it by now. What he is not used to is waking up to the same empty flat. Sherlock’s bed is undisturbed; identical to how it had been left when John checked last night, on the off chance that Sherlock had slipped in unannounced. John knows that there is something wrong. Lestrade thinks John is being overly cautious, but agrees to keep an ear out. It’s almost ten in the morning when John gets a call back.
